Quick Tote (#5-8)

Sale Price:$10.00 Original Price:$12.00
sale

Fixing up vintage hand planes is pretty easy….unless the handles are broken or missing completely. You can make your own handles, but the rear tote is a complex shape with a hole drilled at an angle. Even for skilled woodworkers, this part can be a challenge.

Used totes are available, but they aren’t cheap and they often need to be repaired or refinished. Of course, you can buy a brand-new tote, but these are generally expensive and might cost more than you paid for the plane!

Compass Rose is making it easy to get that vintage plane up and running with our Quick Tote. It’s a faithful replica of the classic Stanley tote, but made from durable PETG plastic. This material is smooth to the touch and will never need finish. It’s resistant to heat, UV light, and solvents. Unlike a wooden tote, the Compass Rose Quick Tote is very difficult to break. Even the fragile “horn” on the back of the tote is unbreakable in normal woodshop use.

The Quick Tote is 3D printed in our Cleveland Workshop. The tote has a very faint seam along one side. Most users don’t even notice it, but you can remove it with fine sandpaper.

Pick up the Quick Tote and you’ll have that classic handplane working in no time at a price you can afford.

Quick knobs also available here.

Please note: this model of Quick Tote fits Stanley models 4 ½, 5, 5 ½, 6, 7 and 8, but not 5 ¼, which takes a #3 tote. We do not currently offer Quick Handles for sizes smaller than #5, but we’re working on handles for the #4 and they should be available soon. The Quick Tote will fit Stanley planes from any era and should fit most equivalent planes made by companies like Miller’s Falls and Sargent.
